Taking the STING out of diabetes

If you’ve got diabetes, you know the drill. You start to feel less like a person and more like a pincushion!

It’s not just the regular blood tests at the doctor’s office you have to worry about.

It’s at home, where you’ve pulled enough blood out of your own finger to stock a Red Cross center in a disaster zone.

Well, friend, if you’re sick of those constant, endless, painful, torturous finger pricks, I’ve got some good news for you today.

You might not need them after all!

New research shows how most diabetics who aren’t taking insulin shots can do just fine without so much as a single finger-stick test.

Heck, you might even do BETTER!

The new study tracked older diabetics who weren’t taking insulin for a full year. Some were going through the daily self-mutilation of those blood tests — some even got constant nagging reminders to make sure they followed through with them — while others got a “get out of finger sticks free” card.

By the end of the study, it didn’t matter who did what — the results were the same.

The folks who did the blood tests DIDN’T have better hemoglobin A1c levels… DIDN’T have a lower risk of low blood sugar episodes… DIDN’T have a better shot at avoiding the hospital… and DIDN’T have a lower risk of eventually needing insulin therapy.

Most importantly, they DIDN’T have a better overall quality of life.

Heck, for my money, that “quality” was probably a whole lot WORSE, since they had to do those darned blood tests every single day. Why willingly put yourself through that pain if you don’t have to?

As the study shows, you might be able to avoid the pain — and that means avoiding everything else that comes along with it, like the risk of a nasty infection on your fingertip.

Obviously, this may not be an option if you’re taking insulin shots. And even if you’re not on insulin, you can’t go solo on this.

You need to get your doc on board, too, since he knows your overall health best and can say whether you can safely end the finger-poking agony.

If you get the all-clear, there’s one more step you can take to make sure you’ll never need those finger pricks and insulin shots — and that’s to ditch nearly ALL sources of sugar.

That includes the obvious stuff with actual sugar, as well as most other carbs, since your body breaks those down into sugars, causing those glucose levels to spike and setting the stage for insulin resistance and — eventually — a lifetime of finger pricks.
