Gut check? Today I’m here with a NOSE check… because I’m going to teach how you to sniff out a swindle.
And this is one scam that won’t just rob you of your hard-earned cash.
It’ll steal your ability to enjoy life, leaving you battling agonizing levels of pain — and it all starts with a surgery so common you won’t even question the doctor who recommends it.
All I can say is question away, because the latest guidelines are urging seniors to avoid one of the most common elective surgeries in the nation: arthroscopic knee surgeries.
Four are done in America EVERY MINUTE.
By the time you’re done reading this, a couple dozen knees will have been hacked open by surgeons who claim they can ease arthritis pain, fix a shredded meniscus, or stop the dreaded clicks and pops that make you feel like a damaged robot when you try to walk.
Turns out this procedure — done TWO MILLION TIMES every year at a cost of $3 BILLION DOLLARS — is a complete and total sham.
This isn’t just me saying it anymore, although I certainly have plenty of times right here in the Daily Dose.
Now, it’s encoded in the official guidelines just published in BMJ.
A team of world-class experts reviewed decades of evidence — including 13 top-notch studies — and concluded that having arthroscopic knee surgery will give you just a 15 percent chance of a small, limited and temporary improvement.
And even if you’re in that lucky few, that minor improvement will vanish within a year!
What’s amazing about the new guidelines is that they leave no room for doubt. They didn’t find the surgery works SOME of the time.
They said the thing works so close to never that it should pretty much never be done for cases such as arthritis and meniscus tears.
The new guidelines even say directly that there is now a “strong recommendation against arthroscopy.”
“We believe that no one or almost no one would want this surgery if they understand the evidence,” Dr. Reed Siemieniuk, chair of the guideline panel, told the Reuters news agency.
I don’t think so. You don’t shut down a $3 billion business overnight — not without a warrant and handcuffs, anyway. So, the only person who can stop these crooks from slicing away is YOU.
Don’t get weak in the knees by a fast-talking surgeon’s empty promises. Know what works… and what DOESN’T… and go with a doc who willing to follow science instead of his wallet.
I’ll have more on this coming up later today, so keep an eye on your inbox. If you have knee pain, you won’t want to miss this one!
