You ever see a skinny person sucking back a Diet Coke?
Maybe they’re out there, but the only ones I’ve seen are in the commercials.
MOST of the people who drink this stuff are living, breathing proof that there’s nothing dietetic about diet soda.
And now, the latest research confirms what you can see with your own eyes: The main ingredient that keeps those sodas calorie-free, aspartame, WON’T help you lose weight.
In fact, it might make it easier than ever for you to pack on the pounds!
The new study shows that aspartame short-circuits a critical part of your digestive process, blocking something called “intestinal alkaline phosphatase.”
That name might not mean much to you, but in your gut, it means EVERYTHING.
IAP plays an essential role in your small intestine. The more you have in operation, the lower your risk of metabolic syndrome, obesity, and diabetes.
And when those levels fall, the risks jump.
In the new study on mice, researchers found that as aspartame breaks down in the gut, it forms a substance called phenylalanine – which, in turn, hits the “off” button on that all-important IAP.
That causes a whole mess of changes in the gut, and none of them are any good.
In a series of experiments, the mice were put on different diets and given either plain water or water mixed with various levels of aspartame.
None of the levels were huge. The highest amount any mouse received was the human equivalent of what’s inside less than two 16-ounce bottles of soda… or what some people knock back just at lunchtime.
In the end, the amount didn’t matter a heckuva lot.
ANY amount of aspartame caused those gut-busting changes – and as a result, mice given aspartame water gained MORE weight than mice on the same exact diet but drank plain water.
The problems didn’t end there.
The mice given aspartame also had higher levels of inflammation AND higher blood sugar levels – despite the fact that they didn’t actually consume any extra sugar.
If that’s not red flag, I don’t know what is!
These mice were rapidly heading down the path toward metabolic syndrome, diabetes, heart disease, and an early death – and you can bet the same thing happens to people.
That’s not the only problem with aspartame.
This stuff is quite possibly the most dangerous substance ever approved for human consumption – linked to dozens of serious health problems, including everything from migraines to cancer.
Don’t kid yourself that the other fake sugars are any better. If they are, it’s not by much.
If you drink soda – diet or regular – it’s time to make a clean break.
