If the canary in the coalmine drops dead, you’re supposed to get the heck out of there.
And if you’ve got the warning signs of prediabetes, your internal canary just croaked – but the guy who’s supposed to be keeping watch over it, YOUR OWN DOCTOR, is asleep at the wheel!
Staggering new numbers show that only half of family doctors follow the guidelines and screen patients at risk for prediabetes, according to a study in the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine.
That’s absolutely irresponsible when you consider that more than a third of U.S. adults – 86 MILLION people – have prediabetes right now.
Most of them don’t even know it, and the new study shows why: Their docs are keeping it secret!
The study finds that most family physicians just don’t want to talk about it, claiming it “over-medicalizes” the condition. So instead, they just offer the same old claptrap about “keeping healthy.”
The result? Prediabetes isn’t even MENTIONED in many practices.
Of course, this is a double-edged sword.
When mainstream docs DO spot prediabetes and talk about it with their patients, they usually do the exact opposite of what they should.
Instead of showing you the dead canary and dragging you out of that coalmine with a come-to-Jesus talk about the need to change your life and your diet RIGHT NOW, they give you something else.
They give you meds!!!
Specifically, they give you diabetes drugs in hopes the same meds that are supposed to control the disease can also prevent it from striking.
It’s a crummy approach.
You get the drugs, then you get the side effects. It’s like a sneak preview of living with the disease – and for all that misery, the drugs don’t even work very well for prediabetics.
Heck, relying on meds and meds alone will pretty much guarantee that you get the disease anyway.
There is one way and one way only that can stop prediabetes cold, turn it around, and help you avoid a collision course with a shorter, sicker life.
And all you have to do is follow the common-sense advice you’ve read time and again here in the Daily Dose: Make the switch to a low-carb diet.
You’ll lose weight in flash… your blood sugar levels will plunge right down into the normal zone… and you’ll feel better than you have in years.
