How to STOP cognitive impairment cold!

Well, my friend, it’s always good to have your affairs in order. But there’s something else you can do right now, and that’s make big plans for the future — because you DON’T have to resign yourself to fate of cognitive decline.

Think of an MCI diagnosis as a golden ticket. It’s your chance to catch this disease EARLY when it’s easier to fight, and new research spots what just might be your most powerful weapon.

And it’s something I hope you’re already getting.

Omega-3 fatty acids are absolutely essential to your brain, and one in particular is critical to your memory and cognition.

It’s docosahexaenoic acid, but since no one — not even your doctor — can say it (or even spell it), you can just call it DHA.

The new study pumped 2,000 mg per day of either this stuff or a corn oil placebo in more than 200 seniors with MCI for a full year.

The folks who got the DHA did better by just about every critical measure. They aced IQ tests, because they were sharper for longer, and they did especially well on the parts of the IQ test that measure both long-term and short-term memory.

The seniors on corn oil could’ve had corncobs for brains, because they were headed right down that path your doctor warned you about.

The folks who got the DHA also did better in another critical measure: They had less “brain shrink.”

All our brains shrink a little over the years. But faster shrink usually means faster decline — and when it shrinks too much, you’ve got dementia.

Feed your brain fats — especially DHA — and you can keep it bigger for longer and slash your risk of MCI turning into dementia.

But don’t stop with fish oil.

If you REALLY want to put a charge into your gray matter, make sure you also get plenty of B vitamins. One study I shared last year found that a blend of Bs along with a fish oil supplements cut the brain shrink by a stunning 40 percent.
