One of the first bits of “wisdom” he’ll share is to give up coffee. It’s never actually been proven that coffee causes gout… but he’ll tell you to quit just the same.

Coffee not only DOESN’T cause gout, but new research finds it can actually PREVENT the condition and cut your risk of painful flare-ups.
Fill your mug four times a day to cut your risk of a painful gout attack in half. Drink a little less, and you’ll still get at least some benefit — a couple cups a day still cut the risk by about 15 percent, according to the review of nine studies published online in in Seminars in Arthritis & Rheumatism.
The study even shows WHY coffee works: It slashes the blood’s levels of uric acid. That’s the junk that gets stuck around your toe and crystalizes into what feels like tiny shards of glass digging into your joints from the inside.
But there’s a catch here: the study finds that coffee CUTS those dangerous uric acid levels, but SUGAR will BOOST them. That means the so-called “coffee drinks” sold at Starbucks and those awful flavored creamers from the grocery store could actually CAUSE gout.
So if you want the gout-busting benefits of coffee, you’re going to have to take yours unsweetened and black, or with just a splash of cream.
If you’ve been drinking sugary coffee or flavored coffee for years, the taste of the real stuff might feel like it’s putting some hair on your chest. But take it from me: You’ll not only get used to it in a hurry, you’ll also learn to love the taste.
