Reality check: The extreme dangers
of hormone replacement therapy
I know I’ve never had to go through menopause, but it doesn’t take too much imagination to know that any potential relief from the symptoms of menopause can’t possibly be worth the higher rates of ovarian cancer, higher rates of breast cancer, and higher rates of stroke that go along with hormone replacement therapy.
But hey, you can’t have hot flashes when you’re dead, right? And that’s just how you could end up if you decide to take HRT.
In what could be the final nail in the coffin of HRT, the Journal of the American Medical Association published a report with the most damning evidence to date:
Women who take hormone replacement pills are
twice as likely to die from breast cancer
This flies in the face of the former “prevailing thought”… the boneheaded notion that even though these pills could increase your risk of breast cancer, it was the type of cancer that would be “favorable and not much of a problem.”
Really? People actually buy that line of B.S.?
They must. Because Big Pharma is still raking in billions with these cancer-causing concoctions.
But when Dr. Rowan Chlebowski of the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute analyzed data on more than 12,000 women from the Women’s Health Initiative Study, he found that, compared to women who took placebo, twice as many women taking HRT died from breast cancer.
He also found that the women who developed breast cancer and who had taken HRT were 50 percent more likely to have their cancer spread to the lymph nodes than the women who took a placebo.
Given the latest information——plus the years of negative research that came before it——you’d think doctors would start looking for alternatives. Instead, they’re only looking for excuses. Why else would they continue prescribing the stuff and think that simply lowering the dose is going to be any safer?
Has there been any research proving that fact? No!
But here’s what research has proven…
• A study in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that women?taking HRT are 21 percent more likely to develop kidney stones.
• A study in the Lancet found that HRT increased lung cancer deaths.
• And as you may recall, researchers had to pull the plug early?on the Women’s Health Initiative study because of the staggering?increase in the risk of breast cancer, heart attack, and stroke.
I’m not opposed to hormone replacement therapy——you just need to make sure you’re taking bioidentical hormones. Bioidentical hormones are made from natural substances within a woman’s body——as opposed to Big Pharma’s version, which comes from horse estrogens.
All of research shows that bioidentical hormones are safer and more effective than patentable molecules. They have fewer side effects. They can reduce the risk of heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and breast cancer. They can improve memory, concentration, mood, and sleep patterns. The list goes on.
The evidence on the benefits of bioidentical hormones——and on the dangers of synthetic hormones——is hard to ignore, but the FDA is doing a darn good job doing just that.
They’re so squarely in Big Pharma’s camp that they’re doing their best to help take out bioidentical hormones bit by bit. Case in point…
FDA takes aim at bioidentical?hormone replacement therapy
Nurses in Oregon are currently fighting a battle to protect their right to prescribe the bioidentical estrogen hormone estriol… despite the fact that mainstream’s meds are killing women at “twice the usual mortality rate,”——and despite the fact that the FDA can’t substantiate a single adverse event for estriol.
Estriol’s crime? It’s not approved by the FDA.
Hello! Of course it’s not! It’s a natural substance found in women’s bodies! Since when did we need FDA approval for that? (Seems like someone’s getting too big for his britches!) Besides, do you know how much money it costs to get that “coveted” (and I use that term loosely) stamp of approval? Upwards of $1 billion! A non-patentable substance can’t bring in that kind of dough——and no company is going to spend that kind of money on a substance they don’t own the rights to.
Regardless, Big Pharma must feel pretty threatened by this little substance. Why else would the company file a petition to have it banned from the market? They shouldn’t have had a leg to stand on, but in the end, the only thing that stopped the FDA from approving it was the huge public outcry.
I know that the symptoms of menopause can be unbearable. But the bottom line here is that you don’t have to put your life on the line to find some relief. Contact a doctor who will work with you to prescribe bioidentical hormones that are right for you——at the right dose.
