Forget taking statins…eat a tomato instead
I’ve told you time and again that you don’t need to worry about your cholesterol levels——and I’ve given you study after study showing that “high cholesterol” is nothing more than an arbitrary number drummed up by Big Pharma to scare you into taking cholesterol-lowering statin drugs.
Yet every time I turn around, I get questioned about high cholesterol: How high is too high? Can I take anything other than statins to get my cholesterol numbers down?
People want natural ways to lower their numbers. In other words, they’ve bought into Big Pharma’s lie——but they don’t want Big Pharma’s solution.
Well, I suppose getting it half right is better than nothing at all——which is why I’m going to talk to you today about one of my favorite summer treats: tomatoes.

The best alternative to statin drugs
Of course, by now you should know that the heart-healthy powerhouse in tomatoes is lycopene, the compound responsible for the bright red color of tomatoes.
That’s why researchers analyzed 14 international studies from the past 55 years that focused on the benefits of lycopene. When they did, they discovered that not only could the lycopene in tomatoes help lower the risk of heart attack and stroke——but that it could also be a tasty (and inexpensive!) alternative to statins.
Raw tomatoes are plenty good for you, but for the best results, eat cooked tomatoes instead. Your body absorbs more lycopene when the tomatoes are cooked than it does when they’re raw.
The study’s author, Dr. Karin Reid, said, “I would really recommend looking at tomato paste. It is very rich in lycopene and it is not difficult to get 50 grams a day in paste… Our study suggests that if more than 25 mg of lycopene is taken daily, it can reduce ‘bad’ cholesterol by up to 10 percent.”
If you’re really worried about cholesterol, at least try an alternative before padding Big Pharma’s pockets and exposing yourself to statins’ side effects. Just two ounces of tomato paste or a pint of tomato juice each day could be enough to do the trick.
And for other tasty ways to get your fill of lycopene, add some additional red items to your grocery list: watermelon, guava, papaya, pink grapefruit, and apricots.
